The living history lab "Life of the Civil War Recruit" allows students and educators the opportunity to partake in some of the experiences of a raw recruit into one of the Civil war armies circa 1863. This program can be easily tailored to more specifically portray a particular unit, like a unit from your hometown, that will include local history in the program. All activities in the program are guided by good primary sources such as Army regulations, Hardee's Tactics and drill manuals, McClellan's bayonet manual, and numerous soldier letters, diaries, and memoirs of army life.
