Home Front/PW Camps

Many German and Italian soldiers were "guests" in Arkansas and southern Missouri during the war and worked in agriculture in many small communities across these states.  Kent Goff has conducted original research on life in these camps and MVEP can bring it to life for your historic site.  (See PW camp paper)

MVEP re-created the Earle, Arkansas camp at Parkin Archeological State Park in 1999.   Former camp provost, Sergeant Joe Kamm, still lives in Earle and provided several hours of oral history on the camp.  Original documents from the camps' operations were found in the Arkansas State University archives of the Gieseck Plantation.  A short film of PWs actually taken in the local area in early 1944 was also found and used to recreate the scenes below.
