FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MVEP performs at Parkin Living History Fair Sept. 10-13de Soto, French, and Civil War programs featured20 September 1998 -- MVEP played a major part in one the finest living history programs in the Mid South September 10 through the 13th. Four MVEP living historians portrayed in "first person character" the deSoto expedition circa 1541, French furtraders and trappers circa 1720, and Civil War soldiers circa 1863 in a series of hands on and participatory demonstrations on Thursday and Friday to school groups. Approximately four hundred students, teachers, and parents took part in the programs. On Saturday and Sunday MVEP historians let the public try its hand at making 16th armor, firing a crossbow or matchlock, scrape a deerhide for tanning, start a fire with flint and steel, learn Civil War drill and bayonet practice, or just look and touch period food, clothing, and equipment made to exacting standards. MVEP programs can be brought to your school, so check out the rest of our site for more information or contact us below. For group photo of the MVEP team click here. For More Information Contact: |
